Preliminary Design :

Did we want to go with a lighter model with no ducting?

​

Could we snap separate bodies together with no adhesive?

​

Needed to gain some insight so we started some research

Premilinary Design Decisions

-Decided to go with ducting on the propellers

​

-Would need to have a really good fitting system if no adhesives were to be used

​

-Could we achieve small fitting success and apply to a larger scale?

​

-Collecting data would be the next step in quantifying an adhesiveless design

Measuring Dimensions

-Micrometer was used to make accurate measurements in mm

 

-Each component size was then recorded in order to make sure the tolerances would be compatible with the printed frame

 

-Data would become vital to the CAD model as revisions became a regular

 

-Utilized as a reference for each time a modification was made

Prototype Fittings

-A cylindrical press fit design was attempted

​

-Idea was to construct a thin truss construction that would snap together like Legos

​

-Benefit is that these parts have some revolute ability to find the optimal positioning

​

-Abandoned the idea after getting up to 0.2 mm of variation on the 3D prints
